Land Rover has announced that they have selected the state of Nevada to host it’s bi-annual “Land Rover G4 Challenge”. The G4 Challenge is a off-road multisport competition. The Nevada Passage competition in May will serve as the U.S. audition for two-person teams wanting to take on the international event in Asia in 2009.
Twenty athletes from around the U.S. will compete in 4×4 driving, navigating, trail running, mountain biking and kayak competitions. At the end the top two teams will move on. Only one U.S. team will eventually make it to the international competition which will take place in Asia in 2009.
The biennial Land Rover G4 Challenge first took place in 2003. This marks only the second time a U.S. selection event has been programmed. Land Rover calls the G4 Challenge “one of the world’s top off-road driving and adventure events.” All that grueling adventure pays off to those who really need it too. You see, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies will benefit from the competition as well with the winning nation seeing its Red Cross or Red Crescent organization get a Land Rover.
The whole event will be broadcast alongside the annual adventure sports event sponsored by the Nevada Commission on Tourism. The commission calls it a “made-for-TV event…designed to highlight Nevada’s unique topography.” You can catch all the details by logging on to their website. Just click on the link below!
