Of all the companies that you would imagine bringing a zero-emission vehicle, British sports car manufacture Morgan is the last one. Yet come the Geneva Auto Show, that is exactly what will happen.
Morgan is known for doing things the old fashion way. Their best selling model has not changed in design in over 50 years. The thing still has an ash frame for pete’s sake! For those that don’t know ash is wood. That’s right the car has a wooden frame and the aluminum body panels are still hand formed on an old English wheel. In other words the last place you’d expect to find a zero-emission car being built.
The car will be based around the company’s more contemporary offering, the Aero 8 and will use a hydrogen fuel cell to generate electric power. Morgan states the car will have a projected 200-mile range. The company proclaims that the LifeCar’s “combination of performance, range and fuel economy will allow a sporting driver of the future to demonstrate a concern for the environment.”
Look for the real car to premier at the Geneva Auto Show. The public’s reaction should be interesting to gauge. This is a perfect example of how manufactures are jumping on the alternative fuel bandwagon and is a great sign of things to come from the small niche manufacture.
