It’s been a classic Volkswagen tradition for some time now. Whenever a opportunity arises to bundle up some cool options at a cool price it is the result. A nod to it’s place of birth and its Germanic heritage.
I’m talking, of course, about the “Wolfsburg” edition VW’s. The latest to get the treatment was the Jetta 2.5L 5-cylinder. It offered all the goodies necessary for a good value, but none of the power boost the previous Wolfsburg’s enjoyed.
Well, not this time around. Volkswagen has deemed fit to equip 2008’s Wolfsburg Jetta with the company’s awesome 2.0 liter turbo 4-cylinder. This FSI injected engine makes a mighty healthy 200 horsepower and 207ft-lbs torque. I’d say that is a fair power boost.
The special version of the Jetta is distinguishable by its 17-inch alloy wheels, leatherette seats and Wolfsburg Edition badging while the base model, which stickers for $21,515, gets a six-speed manual transmission. It’ll run you about $22,590 for the uplevel model with the optional six-speed DSG automatic transmission. Both prices include a $670 destination charge.
The German automaker says it will build about 12,500 of the special-edition models named after the company’s famous headquarters in the town of Wolfsburg. Look for them in dealers as I type this and keep the tradition alive!
