The Mitsubishi Eclipse has long been the kind of model that has cemented Mitsubishi in the states. Gathering an almost cult-like following throughout the years (especially the second generation) the Eclipse has always been a steady seller for the three-diamond folks.
To keep momentum going Mitsubishi is releasing a face lifted 2009 Eclipse. The new cars bumpers and spoilers are the most significant changes. These help tie in the Eclipse with the rest of the family look first started on the new Lancer Evolution-9.
There is also a new dual exhaust system that helps the GT’s 3.8 liter V6 pump out 265 horsepower and torque to 262 pound-feet. Impressive numbers. As usual either a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional Sportronic five-speed automatic will be offered.
The Eclipse GT also adds standard stability control, HID headlamps and a large rear spoiler. All of the Eclipse models feature standard four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and electronic brake force distribution. The GT also gets larger ventilated rear discs and the interior get minor trim revisions and a slight redesign.
Look for all these changes to keep the Eclipse fresh until it gets a total makeover and a new model come out later this year. For now this will have to keep Eclipse fans satisfied.
