Here is what you need to do before you arrive at the dealership. By taking these steps you will save yourself money as well as time:
Do some research:
- Determine how much you can afford to finance on a monthly payment. Look at all your income and deduct ALL your expenses. If you are making a car payment now consider if you can afford that payment or need to reduce it.
- Get a copy of your credit report so you are aware of what a new car dealer and your creditors see. If you find errors or negative information this can impact your ability to get credit and/or a good finance rate.
- Think about your transportation needs. Do you need great mileage, or do you need an SUV to carry several kids around town.
- Check auto buying guides, the Internet and other sources to find out the price range and other information for the vehicle you want to buy.
- Compare current finance rates being offered by contacting various banks, credit unions or other lenders. Compare bank quotes, there may be restrictions on the most attractive rates or terms from any credit source so read carefully. Submit an auto loan quote and have lenders contact you with various programs for your consideration.
These simple steps will save you lots of money and time. Remember the loan you get today will be a loan you will live with for years, so choose wisely.
