Ratan Tata made good on his promise today by unavailing his $2,500 “car for the masses”. Called the Nano, the little car meausures 29 inches shorter than a Honda Fit. It is suppose to move India from 2 wheels to 4 wheels.
The bare basic four-door hatchback seats up to five passengers and is powered by a 624cc, two-cylinder gasoline engine making a whole total of 33hp. The cat is also equipped with a continuously variable transmission. Expected to get up to 50 miles per gallon and meet Indian crash test and emissions guidelines, the little Nano was also designed from the beginning to pass international side offset and side crash tests.
