That’s right ladies and gentlemen, Speed Racer is coming to the big screen. The classic Japanese cartoon, which has garnered a cult like following, is being made into a live action flick. The Wachowski brothers (of Matrix fame) directed the movie and are themselves fans of the show.
Emile Hirsch will play Speed, Christina Ricci is Trixie, John Goodman is Pops Racer and Susan Sarandon has an interesting turn as Mom Racer. The whole movie was basically shot on green screen. Green screen is a way of inserting live actors and objects into a digital world. The whole movie is basically computer animated.
Here is the best part though (this is a car blog) , the other star of the show, Speed’s awesome car the Mach 5, will make it’s own debut. You’ll be able to see the car in person at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. It’ll be displayed on it’s own stand.
The action/adaptation/computer animated film opens in theaters nationwide on May 9th. Go see it if your into the show and remember….Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Gooo!!!!!
