Could you imagine buying a brand new car for $2,500? It seems a far stretch but India’s Tata Motors is already almost there.
When the New Delhi Auto Expo opens this week, Tata’s new $2,500 sub compact will take center stage. Already making some big industry honchos take notice, the new Tata car will start the begging of a new race to build the best, cheapest car possible.
The yet-to-be-named car developed by India’s Tata Group promises to be the world’s cheapest car at 100,000 rupees (roughly $2,500). Some industry analysts predict the little car could revolutionize car costs globally.
Company founder and chief Ratan Tata, an architect trained at Cornell University, personally helped design the car. His goal is to move India’s masses from motorbikes to cars.
Ford has already announced an investment of roughly $500 million in India’s emerging auto industry. That kind of money show that this is serious business. People expect great things from India in the future.
