The mighty Ford is in a bit of an embarrassing situation right now. It seems that a Japanese company is outselling them on their own turf.
That’s right folks, as of yesterday Toyota has outsold Ford in U.S. auto sales for 2007. Even though it has been obvious to everyone that the big three (especially Ford) have not been doing so hot, this just drives the point home. More Americans buy Toyota’s than they do Fords.
While General Motors retained the number-one spot with 23.8 percent of the market, Toyota has pulled ahead of Ford into the number-two spot with 16.3 percent. Ford disputes that figure (of course), as Toyota includes its Scion brand in its numbers. Even so Ford includes they’re heavy and light truck divisions.
The message is very clear for Ford. Either shape up, or bye-bye. Apparently it takes more than just being an American brand to lure American buyers. The ball is in your court Ford.
