Nissan and Chrysler want to share. The two company’s are in talks about a potential partnership in sharing technology. Both could benefit in areas where the others excel.
Nissan wants to use Chrysler’s large truck expertise to further refine it’s truck models, while Chrysler wants to use Nissan’s know-how in building small efficient economy cars. They both look to benefit from this proposed tie-up.
Nissan and Renault, which are alliance partners, had been talking about a three-way partnership with General Motors in the past. Those efforts did not come to fruition however and a deal between Nissan and Chrysler would not involve either party taking an equity stake in the other.
It is going to be interesting to see how this will translate in the showroom. This is being set-up as a win-win situation for both sides. Just remember that these partnerships can go sour(cough*Daimler-Chrysler*cough), even if this isn’t a merger.
Let’s just hope this relationship brings good things.
