Seems speed stays in the brain sometimes. At least one could argue that as news of F1 driver Lewis Hamilton’s massive speeding ticket is coming out to light.
The rookie sensation rocked Formula 1 in 2007 with his fairytale Grand Prix debut year. Driving for the McLaren F1 team, Hamilton scored various victories and pole positions, all in his first year! Well it seems that now the season being over, Lewis should slow down a bit, eh?
Hamilton was driving his Mercedes-Benz CLK coupe, which was confiscated by the police officers who stopped him near Laon, about 85 miles northeast of Paris. His speed of 123 mph in an 80mph zone was well above the limit. He was taken back to his hotel by police where he received a mandatory fine of about $865. On top of all this he had his French license suspended for a month. Ouch!! All this for a guy that make a living driving at near 200mph speeds.
A McLaren spokesman was quoted by the Times of London today as saying Hamilton’s professional driving would not be affected by the penalty.
Rules are rules Mr. Hamilton…
Though a bit annoyed at first, Lewis got over it quickly…
