Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is offering exchanges for certain tires sold for use with minivans and small trucks. Even though it is a classic example of a recall, Goodyear’s people insisted the decision is not a recall.
“The exchange is not a recall because no design or manufacturing defect was found in the tire”, said Sim Ford, manager of Goodyear’s government and customer compliance. Typical, I guess, but definitely something crucial to safety.
About 400,000 of these Goodyear replacement tires are affected. The tires were sold between 2003 and 2006.
The reason for the recall exchange is that some of these tires under adverse conditions can have tread separation. The tire size affected is a P215/70R14 tire. The tires were sold under 23 private label names, including Douglas, Kelly, Mohave and Republic, in both the United States and Canada.
Goodyear is offering its Regatta 2 all-season radial in exchange so take advantage of it, if your tires are affected that is. Any Goodyear retailer should be able to sort this out for you.
