0-60 in under 4 seconds. Top speed is 125mph. 248hp at an astonishing 13,000 rpm’s. Two-seat, open top, mid-engine, rear drive. These are all very yummy specs indeed. As far as a sports car is concerned, this is just about right. Now add to the equation a modified Lotus Elise chassis and a wet weight of under 3,000 pounds, and we’ve got a recipe for a stupendously good time. Not to mention a glorious sports car.
Here is the hat trick though. These specs that I’m about to list now are from the same car. 135 miles per gallon (equivalent), 2 cents a mile, 245 mile range, fully electric….
Wait, what?! Fully electric?! As does not run in any way or form on gasoline?! As in never have to stop at a gas station, fully electric?!
Indeed my friends. The Tesla Car Company has put into production a fully electric sports car. A sports car with the performance numbers to match. Not a Prius or Insight or Hybrid, not an appliance. Rather a real sports car. They took away what I didn’t want (gas, pollution, ect.) and left what I love (performance, looks, economy).
This is the ultimate solution and Tesla is the first company to actually take it seriously into production, with the intent on it staying in production. Not a gimmick or a stop-gap product but rather, a new American car company with an excellent solution.
I applaud the courage and know-how of the people involved in this company and even though I can’t afford one ($98,000 , yike!) I know it’s a necessary step in the technology becoming affordable, Tesla’s next model will be an affordable small car for everyone and anyone. And with the possibility of a full charge in just 3.5 hours, it’s possible to have all this with minimal inconvenience.
Can’t wait to see one on the road! This is a step in the right direction…
