Volkswagen of America is teaming up with CarbonFund.org to help you figure out your carbon footprint. What is a carbon footprint you ask? Well a carbon footprint is a calculation based on your car’s impact on the amount of carbon-based emissions being produced every year. Carbon emissions are a proven cause of green house gas, pollution, and various other widely known enviromental problems. Volkswagen has set-up a dedicated calculator to help you understand the impact your car has. Just click on the link below to go to the website. By putting in your year, make, model, engine, and mileage(up to 100,000) you can find out your cars carbon footprint and the associated cost of it over a year. On top of all this the folks from Wolfsburg are going one step further by offering to offset the carbon emissions for one year of every new Volkswagen purchased in the U.S. from September 1, 2007 thru January 2, 2008. The money generated by the Carbon Neutral Project will be put toward the re-forestation of the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley, which has been renamed “The VW Forest”. Over 1,100 acres of Northeast Louisiana’s Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley is on its way to being re-forested because of this project. A good start towards the fight against carbon emmissions. Why Louisiana? The region’s carbon absorption rates are among the highest of any area in the United States. This makes it the perfect place to fight Global Warming. So log on and and learn if your carbon footprints are not leaving a dirtier trail than they need to be.
