Given I have three kids in college, I have heard it all about cars and going to college. My first isssue is why does a kid need a car if they live on campus the first year. Most schools have plenty of transportation, parking on campus is bad, and tickets are expensive. Of course, the need to get to an off-campus job, get food, etc.. is a good reason, but it is a tough sell. Then there is the expense issue, do you go with a used car or new car? New cars get you stability, less frustrations, and a higher expense to swallow. Used cars get you more problems no doubt, but less money out of pocket, unless you have a lemon and don’t get me started on that. So if your kids are in or about to go to college soon, check out this article in Boston.com.
