I’ve often wondered if people are like me. My Acura lease comes up next April, and I can’t help but look at every new car and think, “would I buy that, do I need that?” Are you someone who after the new car smell goes away starts thinking about the next new car in you life? I know once I get to under a year on a car I’m thinking about it every time I’m on the road. I see a luxury sports car like the Lexus SC convertible and hold my breath, then I think of the payment and breathing becomes easier as I dont ‘have to make it. Many cars make me stop and think, but the problem is my confusion about my personal needs, practical needs, and the little boy in me needs. We have an SUV, so that is not high on my list. Plus the kids are older so do I dont think I need it. With all the talk about green new cars and saving gas and money, which I’m all for both, maybe some hybrid is where I belong, not an SUV.
So given I’m at mid-life, (and I promise you I hate seeing that in writing) maybe I need one more turn or two in a small sports car. Maybe I look for that 2008 Chevrolet Camaro coming out that takes me back a little to my teenage years. Or maybe I need to be more practical and get really good MPG and buy small and find a 35 MPG or higher car. It is a hard time to decide, pressure is all around us to cut back on gas and oil use, so I think I will have to lean that way, if we think gas prices are high now, what will they be in say three years I wonder. So, when do you start to look for a new car, post your thoughts and let me know.
